Job Description:

We are seeking a dynamic and creative Marketing and Events Intern to join our team. This role reports directly to the Sales & Marketing Director and plays a crucial part in the planning, execution, and enhancement of our marketing efforts. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and organized professional with a passion for driving marketing initiatives and a knack for creativity.  

 

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Trade Show & Event Coordination: Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of trade shows and marketing events, including logistics, vendor management, and on-site support.
  • Social Media Management: Oversee and manage the company’s social media profiles and presence, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok. Engage in social media listening, respond to inquiries, and craft compelling content to drive engagement and brand awareness.
  • Brand Management/Public Relations: Crafting and maintaining the positive image of our NSS company/brand, leveraging media and public relations strategies to enhance visibility and reputation.
  • Content Creation: Develop and create engaging content for a variety of channels, including blog posts, articles, social media updates, and marketing materials, ensuring brand consistency.
  • Website Management: Maintain and update the company website, ensuring content is current, engaging, and optimized for user experience.
  • PowerPoint Presentations: Design and prepare PowerPoint presentations for sales pitches, internal meetings, and external stakeholder engagements, ensuring they are visually appealing and communicate key messages effectively.
  • Case Studies & White Papers: Work with the technical team to develop case studies and white papers that highlight product benefits, customer success stories, and industry insights.
  • News Releases: Draft and distribute news releases to promote company milestones, product launches, and other newsworthy events.
  • Marketing/Customer Support: Provide support in various marketing initiatives and customer support efforts, ensuring a cohesive and customer-focused approach to all activities.
  • Marketing Campaigns: Designing, implementing, and overseeing marketing campaigns across various channels (digital, print, social media, email, etc.) to reach target audiences effectively. This includes following campaign budgets, selecting channels, and measuring campaign performance.
  • Swag Management: Oversee the ordering, design, and distribution of branded merchandise used in promotional efforts at events, online, and in other marketing campaigns.
  • Analytics Reports & Meetings: Generate and present analytics reports detailing the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and strategies to showcase in weekly sales & marketing meetings.
  • Graphic Design & Videography: Generate branded graphics for marketing campaigns and platforms. Collaborate with and support the contracted graphic designer and/or videographer if needed in creating visual content for marketing materials, ensuring brand consistency and appeal.
  • Marketing Grant & Budget Management: Follow and adhere to our marketing grant guidelines and overall marketing budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for maximum impact.

 

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Degree in Marketing, Business, or related field.
  • Experience in marketing, event planning, or a related role.
  • Are new entrants into the work force, are transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field
  • Have not previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship
  • Are at least 18 years of age
  • Knowledge of the mining industry is an asset  
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Canva is required, with the ability to create compelling, effective, and visually appealing designs using its suite of tools. Knowledge and experience in Adobe Photoshop are considered a significant asset, enabling the creation of more complex and refined designs
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and content creation
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Creative thinker with strong writing and communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly PowerPoint, and experience with website management tools
  • Driver’s license
  • Valid Passport
  • Reside, and be legally entitled to work in Canada

Digital Savvy: Competency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including Canva and, ideally, Adobe Photoshop. Familiarity with social media management and content creation is essential.

Adaptability: Flexible and adaptable, capable of adjusting to changing priorities and thriving in a fast-paced environment.

Independence: Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, taking ownership of tasks and projects while effectively managing time and resources.

 

Travel:

This position requires the flexibility to travel, particularly during peak trade show season from February to September. The role involves attending trade shows, conferences, and other marketing events to represent our brand, manage booth setups, and engage with clients and partners face-to-face. Candidates must be willing and able to travel domestically and potentially internationally, depending on event locations. Travel readiness and the ability to maintain high performance and professionalism on the road are essential qualities for this role.

Work Environment

Office Work: The primary work environment will be in the office, where the Marketing & Events Coordinator will engage in day-to-day marketing activities, plan campaigns, and collaborate with the team.

Off-Site Travel: Travel includes attending trade shows, marketing events, and conferences to represent the brand and engage with clients and partners.

Technical Underground Demonstrations: Occasionally, the position requires participation in technical underground demonstrations at our training facility. This aspect of the role involves hands-on involvement and the ability to effectively showcase and explain our products and services in a controlled, technical setting when needed.
